Shane Nigam Career
Shane Nigam began his acting journey with a notable role in the film “Neelakasham Pachakadal Chuvanna Bhoomi.” However, he gained recognition for his performance in “Annayum Rasoolum,” where he portrayed the role of Anna’s (played by Andrea Jeremiah) brother. He was then offered the lead role in “Njan Steve Lopez” by Rajeev Ravi but didn’t accept it.
His breakthrough as a lead actor came in 2016 with the film “Kismath,” opposite Shruthy Menon. His portrayal received praise from Malayali audiences, and the movie was a commercial success. Following this, he played a significant role alongside veteran actors Amala and Manju Warrier in the 2017 film “C/O Saira Banu.” In 2018, he appeared in the romantic film “Eeda,” which also received critical acclaim.
In 2019, Shane starred in two notable films: the comedy-drama “Kumbalangi Nights,” which was a massive box office success and garnered positive reviews from critics, and the romantic thriller “Ishq.”
Shane Nigam Controversy
In 2019, Shane Nigam accused Indian producer Joby George of threatening him with death because he had trimmed his hair. Joby was reportedly upset because Shane’s changed appearance didn’t match the character’s look in the film they were working on together. Shane took to Facebook to share a video discussing the conflict with Joby.
“I’ve never gone live on Facebook or wanted to cause trouble for anyone. But I feel emotional about this because I’m unsure about what might happen to me next. I just trimmed my hair slightly for the movie ‘Qurbaani.’ The producer of the film ‘Veyil,’ Joby George, has threatened me with death.”
Shane then lodged a complaint against Joby with the Association of Malayalam Movie Actors (AMMA). However, when asked about the incident, Joby claimed that Shane had raised his fees from the agreed-upon amount of Rs 30 lakh to Rs 40 lakh. Joby denied threatening him. Eventually, they resolved their differences. However, during a press conference, officials from the Kerala Film Producers Association banned Shane from working in films until he compensated for the losses incurred.
“Appearance holds great importance in films. By cutting his hair, Nigam disrespected the producer who had invested a significant amount in the industry. Additionally, Nigam requested more money from the producer of the film ‘Ullasam’ to complete the dubbing. Although the contract with the producer was for Rs 25 lakh, he asked for an additional Rs 20 lakh for dubbing. Such behavior was not exhibited by any other artist. The ban on Nigam serves as a warning to all. There’s growing concern about drug abuse on film sets. It’s suggested that police inspect shooting locations and actors’ caravans as drug abuse contributes to the lack of discipline.”
